Registered Psychotherapists and Social Workers are regulated practitioners in psychotherapy in good standing with their respective colleges: The College of Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) or the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). In Ontario, therapists who are registered with the CRPO, use the title or designation of Registered Psychotherapist and have the abbreviation RP after their name. Social Workers who are registered in Ontario use the designation Registered Social Worker and have the abbreviation RSW after their name.

Psychotherapy is primarily a talk-based therapy and is intended to help people improve and maintain their mental health and well-being. Registered Psychotherapists and Social Workers work with individuals, couples and families in individual and group settings. Psychotherapy occurs when the RP/RSW and the client enter into a psychotherapeutic relationship where both work together to bring about positive change in the client’s thinking, feeling, behaviour and social functioning. Individuals usually seek psychotherapy when they have thoughts, feelings, moods and behaviours that are adversely affecting their day-to-day lives, relationships and the ability to enjoy life.

I am a bilingual Ottawa-based Clinical Psychologist treating adult individuals at Evolve Psychotherapy. I have worked for several years with patients in a psychiatric population, as well as with serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces at Canadian Forces Health Services Center (Ottawa). I have experience both with assessments and with psychotherapy.

In my practice I do formal assessments and offer treatment:

Assessments involve a mix of tests and clinical interviews. They can be helpful in many different circumstances: to obtain a diagnosis or a second opinion on a diagnosis, to help select the best treatment for your difficulties, to better understand who you are as a person, etc. (Please note that I do not conduct assessments for custody evaluations.)

Psychotherapy is a treatment for the mind (often called ‘therapy’). Doctors may recommend it, friends who have had positive experiences with therapy may suggest it, and others simply have tried everything; so come to therapy this way. You do not need a diagnostic of a mental health disorder to seek psychotherapy; the only requirement is that you have something you are uncomfortable with in yourself or your life and want to work on changing it for the better.

You may have heard that there are different “approaches” in psychotherapy. This means that therapists use different tools and techniques to get to the same end goal: working with you to improve your general well-being. The main approach I use is centered on emotions and relationships; sometimes that is called the psychodynamic approach, or attachment-based therapy. Another way to explain it would be to say that I help clients understand who they are, why they act the way they do, and what would make their life more satisfying and more meaningful.

I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (BA) from McGill University and a doctoral degree (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology from Université du Québec en Outaouais. I am a member in good standing of the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO #6073) and of Ordre des Psychologues du Québec (OPQ #12382-14). I am also registered as a provider with Blue Cross and available to offer services to serving members of the RCMP as well as Veterans from the Canadian Armed Forces. (Please note that I am not accepting requests for VAC assessments or reassessments in 2024).
